Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare Training Course

Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare Training

What is Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare?

Simply put it is a proven, data-based process improvement methodology that has been adapted from a manufacturing to a healthcare environment.

Lean tools and techniques help to identify and reduce waste in any process. Six Sigma methodology is used to reduce variation in processes to help ensure high quality, repeatable results.

Proffer Brainchild offers a variety of training levels including Yellow Belt (beginner), Green Belt (intermediate), and Black Belt (advanced).

These classes incorporate first-hand experience, best practices from multiple industries, rigorous academic research to create an engaging, effective and memorable learning experience.

Common hospital processes improved via Lean Six Sigma

  • 3rd Party reimbursement
  • Admittance & Discharge
  • Food & Laundry service
  • Emergency response
  • Medication reconciliation
  • Hiring & termination
  • Purchasing authorization
  • Staff training & scheduling
  • Internal & external reporting
  • Infection control & prevention
  • Discharge not final billed

YELLOW BELT (2 days)

This course provides of an overview of what Lean Six Sigma for healthcare is all about. It is designed to help change the way participants look at everything they and their departments do - to help them start seeing inefficiencies / problems and opportunities they may have looked at so many times over such a long time that they quit seeing them altogether. This course is a good introduction to structured problem solving and performance improvement. It is appropriate for employees at any level who are interested in becoming better team members.

Topics covered include:

  • Migration of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies from manufacturing to healthcare
  • Terminology
  • Visualizing Processes
  • Types of data and tools for data collection and graphic analysis (no statistics)
  • Rethinking Processes - Efficiency vs. Effectiveness
  • Lean Concepts (5S, Visual Management, 7 Wastes, Pull Systems, etc.)
  • Problem solving with Six Sigma (the DMAIC model)
  • Introduction to Error Prevention

Enrollment of our yellow belt training course may be tailored to your specific timing requirements.

Classes run from 8:30 am to 3:30 PM Eastern Time with a 1 hour lunch / email break from 11:30 to 12:30.

GREEN BELT (6 days)

This course builds on the content of Yellow Belt and is intended to develop participants into leaders of small to medium size/complexity projects in their area of expertise. Participants are encouraged to conduct a project in conjunction with the training. Mentoring support for the project is provided via telephone and email as a part of this course. SigmaWorks, a statistical analysis software package is demonstrated in this course but it is not required. However, Excel is required for completing the various templates (project charters, C&E Matrix, FMEA, etc.) provided in this class.
